Coping with the loss of someone or something you love is one of life’s biggest challenges. Grief can feel like an emotional roller coaster. Along with profound sadness can come anger, disbelief, and guilt. The pain of grief can take a toll on your physical and mental health, making it difficult to sleep, eat, or find joy in activities you previously enjoyed. Perhaps you’re finding it difficult to concentrate, or are experiencing lapses in memory. These are normal reactions to significant loss. How you grieve depends on your personality and coping style, your life experience, your faith, and how significant the loss was to you.
While there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there are healthy ways to cope with the pain that, in time, can ease your sadness and help you come to terms with your loss, find new meaning, and a way to move forward with your life.
You may associate grieving with the death of a loved one—which is often the cause of the most intense type of grief—but any loss can cause grief, including:
- Divorce/relationship breakup
- Loss of health
- Loss of a job
- A miscarriage
- Loss of financial stability or home
- Retirement
- Death of a pet
- Loss of a friendship
- Loss of safety after a trauma.
Whatever the cause of your grief, there are healthy ways to deal with the pain and eventually come to terms with your loss. If you are ready to begin healing and start living the life you envisioned, contact Envision Therapy today to schedule an appointment.
